The Regional Center for Feeding, Swallowing & Voice is the only center offering these comprehensive services in our seven county region and makes Mary Rutan Hospital one of the only facilities in the state of Ohio to employ more than one Board Certified Specialist in Swallowing and Swallowing Disorders.
Procedures provided include modified barium swallow studies, fiberoptic endoscopic evaluation of the swallow (FEES), videolaryngostroboscopy (VLS), and acoustic voice assessments. For patients with swallowing deficits, an extensive selection of treatment options for adults include active oral and pharyngeal exercises, swallowing strategies, diet modifications and neuromuscular electric stimulation. For pediatric patients, specialized treatment plans are developed to address feeding and swallowing disorders of many medical and/or developmental etiologies.
For those with voice disorders, specialized treatment plans may include vocal exercises, identifying and eliminating phonotraumatic behaviors and retraining proper breathing/voice techniques. Ongoing collaboration with Dr. Cliffton Hood, ENT is available for surgical and medical management of voice and swallowing disorders.
